I guess I just don't see what you're describing, or maybe the san fran area just has more class. Around here a guy that pulled first dates like you described would be shunned by guys and girls alike. I have paid for men many times on "real" dates, and at the very least pay my own way. I don't know how you expect to call out male commentors for their sexism (i.e. calling you a stupid whore) when you yourself perpetuate the same notions of "chivalry" and strict gender roles that support the institution of patriarchy. If you expect your dates to act like "men," they're going to expect you to act like a woman, as you say in the last line of the post--a role which has often meant "owing" sex to a man.
