Best advice ever.

lara stone and kate moss

1. Flip a coin when you need to make a decision, because you’ll realize what you actually want when the coin is in the air.

2. If you’re not sure what to do in any situation, go with what would make a good story (I found this one on Reddit, and I am paraphrasing it terribly.)

3. Say yes more than no.

4. Ask. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. – My “aunt” Sara.

5. Watch “Breaking Bad.”

6. If you work hard, and you’re kind, amazing things will happen. – Conan O’Brien.

7. You can be jealous of someone or you can be happy for someone. If you’re happy for them, they’ll be nicer to you.

8. Help your friends.

9. But don’t loan them money and expect to get it back.

10. Don’t ever tell someone to “just get over it.” At least not to their face.

11. Don’t smoke. You’ll pay for it later.

12. Eat lots of protein.

13. The more noes you get the better your success story will be.

14. Someday we will all laugh. I don’t know when. – Dave Horwitz.

15. You can become a prisoner in bitterness or you can say I’m going to live my life and be happy – Dr. Phil.

16. The next year is going to go by whether you’re going something about your life or not – Dr. Phil. Come at me.

17. To avoid tangles when you travel, slip your necklace through a drinking straw – Pinterest.

18. Clear nail polish + eye shadow = matte nail polish – Pinterest again.

19. Sometimes you just gotta say, what the fuck. – “Risky Business.”

20. There is no shame in using coupons.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

Just because you were doing something yesterday, doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing tomorrow. Change your mind, reinvent yourself. Don’t let anyone or anything keep you trapped in something that isn’t right for you.

1. Floss.
2. Use cedar shoe trees – your shoes are expensive and they will last longer.
3. Get renters insurance. It’s cheap and you will be thankful if (God forbid) something happens.
4. Contribute to your IRA/401K at your first job. You won’t miss the money, get the habit early.
5. Take statistics in undergrad because if you wait ’til grad school you will *struggle*

On a more inspirational note:

1. Shed your obligations.
2. Don’t take it out on yourself.
3. You don’t need anyone else’s approval.

“Desiderata”, which my mother had hanging up in her room when I was little is something that I return to constantly:

But I also love this bit from Kurt Vonnegut’s “God Bless You, Mister Rosewater”, which one of the characters reads to babies just after they’re born:

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and it’s wet and it’s crowded. On the outside, you’ve got about hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.”

1) every month save 10% of your income, unless you are in the lowest-income decile of the population.
2) always reply when you receive an e-mail, even if it is just to say ” I’m too busy now but I’ll get back to you asap”.
3) learn when to say “no”, so you’ll have to say it less and less by time – because people will learn what not to ask from you.
