Happy 2nd Blogiversary.

Two years ago today I started this blog. This was the first post. Yeah.

I just want everyone to know that before I switched from blogspot to wordpress, I had lots of comments on my old posts. I’m telling you this so that you know I was popular and won’t feel sorry for me. Also I want you to know I didn’t purposefully delete your comments. I never delete comments. I’ve gotten such great, insightful, and weird funny comments from you guys over the years and I cherish them. Even the mean ones, of which there haven’t been many, so thank you.

To thank everyone for sticking with me and continuing to read, I made y’all a mix “tape.” It’s not a tape. Obviously. You can download it onto your computer and then play it as you hold up a tape recorder and press record. I did that once. Got a great police siren in the background. Really added something to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” Anyway. It’s called “I Think I’m Having A Good Time.” It’s like those times where you’re at a party and you’re with your friends and you know you look good but you’re wondering if deep inside something is missing because you love pop music of the 60s and 90s but you’re not dancing just yet and you’re trying to figure out why.

One of my favorites is “Does Anybody Really Date Anymore?” Forgive me if that’s not the exact wording; my short-term memory is shot to hell. It was the very first post I read. I came upon it because that sex author lady, Violet Blue, tweeted it to her followers.

I also love “Let’s All Just Feel Badly For Ourselves.” I’m pretty sure you were reading my pretend.diary when you posted that one.

Then I had another one, but dammit, I can’t fucking . . . .Oh. It was the Audrey Hepburn one. A long time ago I was obsessed with her. I read numerous biographies, and on her birthday one year, I very nearly held a party with my friends (complete with cake).

    Happy Blogiversary, Almie!

Thank you CJ!!! I’ve loved having you here.

Do you mean the Audrey Hepburn piece I wrote for TR…? This?: http://thisrecording.com/today/2011/2/9/in-which-nothing-about-audrey-hepburns-ex-husband-interests.html

I know I’ve mentioned AH on this blog several times but I don’t remember posting specifically about her…

“I came upon it because that sex author lady, Violet Blue, tweeted it to her followers.”

WHAT I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT? How cool!!

Just a head’s up, it’s about the dark side of Audrey Hepburn. Don’t wanna bum you out.

      1. CJ

No worries; I didn’t get bummed out at all! After all, I’m a jaded bitch now. I really enjoyed this article, and had NO idea that she had dinners with Holden AND his wife. So crazy!

  2. rosjiggidy

Like CJ it’s gotta be “Does anybody date anymore” No idea how I stumbled on it but I’ve been hooked ever since

Awesome! I sing “Ca Plane Pour Moi” at karaoke on a fairly regular basis. The host and I have an understanding that any time someone thinks they’re awesome for knowing “99 Luft Balloons”, I get to sing Plastic Bertrand directly after them and we turn the words off. Yeah, I’m hardcore about my nerdy French dudes.

That’s way impressive. And I know this song is pretty old hat by now but it’s too good to resist. EVER.

Wow. I really like your first post. Maybe I’m biased though because people always say that my dad looks like Mick Jagger, so I have a soft spot for him as a father figure.
But also, I’m obsessed with your video How To Get Over a Break-Up. It actually genuinely helped me feel better when I was going through a really bad breakup, but it also cracks my shit up every time I watch it. Golden.
Happy Blogiversary, keep doin what you do.

I always said if I had a band I’d call them The Jagging Micks. People tell me it’s a dumb name and I tell them they just don’t understand.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad it helped. A little surprised, but glad. That’s what I love to hear.

      xoxo

Everything Sucks. But It’s Okay. Has to be my favourite post. Not only was it my first, but it was a great help to me to realize I’m not the only one to feel that way. It’s the one I link all my friends to when they start getting stressed or down on themselves. It’s the one I read when I need a reminder to love myself.

Muppet man guide! and how to get over a breakup. I use a different muppet/sesame/henson song on most mixes I make for ladies I am trying to impress, and use the antioxidants line for anything involving apples/wine (with appropriate credit, of course of course). I like finding resonance in online personalities to my own idiosyncrasies and quirks- it makes the world feel a little bit smaller. I hope you have a dozen more years of sass and chutzpah. always go for gusto!

    1. Almie Rose Post author

      Ahahahaaa yay! Antioxidants!! Thank you.

“use a different muppet/sesame/henson song on most mixes I make”

What do you mean? Like the Kermit It’s Not Easy Being Green song or the Rubber Duckie song or what?

      1. alphiebot

yeah! and rainbow connection, I don’t want to live on the moon, moving right along, and mahnamahna once (to very very poor reception).

  7. marissa

congratulations on two years! dang, they go by fast, no?
i found you through a friend who sent me your how to get over a breakup video. i’ve been reading and LOLling ever since.

  8. d

It seems like only yesterday that my friend Lauren (the Austin version of you) shared this blog with me, and I have been reading and following you since.

I always say that you remind me a lot of me in many ways, both in quirkiness and also our experiences and reactions in the dating/relationship world. Sometimes I read an entry and think “I could have written that exact thing, though from the ‘dude’ perspective,” lol.

At any rate, you will always have me as a reader even when you’re rockin’ grey hairs in your 60s (I wish you brunette locks until then), haha.

    Cheers,
    d

happy bloggibirthday of course! I can’t believe it’s been two years already, you professional you.

  10. Genie

Two years, wow! You’ve done a great job =) My favorite posts are: She Comes in Colors Everywhere, I just love the pictures of this girl I don’t even know; If I Had the Chance, this post is just absolutely hilarious. It’s the post that made me fall in love with your blog; and I Don’t Want a Boyfriend, because I was feeling the exact same way when I read that, haha. Of course I love so many others as well! Keep up the awesome workk.

  11. Roxana

the first post i read from your blog was “does anybody date anymore”, too! one of my friends sent it to me (i have no idea how she came across it though) and i’ve been reading your stuff religiously ever since… most of the time your blog posts have been EXACTLY what i needed or how i would have written about something. i’ve spread the apocalypstick love to tons of friends. i think the “how to get over a breakup” video has been the biggest hit 🙂

    1. Almie Rose Post author

Thank you!! Thank you for sharing my little blog and thank you for telling me that you read it. Sometimes I wonder if it’s just floating out there all lonely on the internet.

  12. Gsouder

So… The mix is awesome, good job, I was kind of hoping for a Mick Jagger or a rolling stones nod since it was part of your first post but it’s all good.

  13. Gina

This is great! I’m super excited to download that list of songs. Totally going to make an “Apocalypstick” mix on my itunes.

    Happy Blogiversary!

  14. stephanie

i love ALL of your posts and i’ve gotten lottsa great songs from you. But the best thing I got from you was this phrase (which you credited to william shakespeare): “thank you for inviting me but what the fuck is this shit?”

happy two year blog birthday! are you working on a book?

    1. Almie Rose Post author

LOL OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THAT QUOTE, I AM KIND OF FUNNY. Thank you!

I’m working on the book, but it’s a different book!

  15. Pineapplepants

Just found your blog today, and I should send you a goddamn cupcake or a convertible, Oprah-style, or something in thanks for both validating and helping relieve me of this funk I’m in. Boy shit, you know. Drank two bottles of wine (TWO) last night, watched Masterpiece Mystery, and felt fucking sorry for myself. Continued wallowing today until I found you. Yay! Now I’m couch-dancing to Betty Davis and considering actually getting up and brushing my teeth.

    Seriously, thanks.
