Older Men.

I just want to make one thing perfectly clear:

I would hit it so hard. I would wreck him. He would need to go to the hospital. He would probably sprain various body parts. I know his bones are getting weak, so this is just a fair warning. You think you’ve had heart problems in the past, Macca? Yeah, nothing compared to what I would do to you. But guess what? It would be so worth it. I’ll elaborate more later. Oh, you think there’s no more I can say? How wrong you are. Oh, you don’t want me to elaborate? Get a ticket to ride, cuz I don’t care.

A lot of younger women seem to go for older men. This isn’t a fad, this is because men in their twenties are like Elmo. They’re fun and cute but they’re kind of annoying and ultimately confused. I’m sorry, are you bothered by my generalization? THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD STOP MAKING IT TRUE.

I’ll be kind and say that you guys probably have good intentions but you always wind up in the failboat. (Note: I realize that not all guys in their 20s are like this. If you’re not like this, you’re of a dying breed! Thank you for existing!) The worst is when you act immature and we’re surprised. I’m sure we do a lot of bitchy things that you hate but one thing that we don’t do is leave you hanging. We don’t randomly stop texting you. (Also, we don’t think of watching you and your bros play Guitar Hero as a date.)

This is why I need to marry Paul McCartney.

Yeah, specious logic on my part. Really I’ve always wanted to marry Paul McCartney. And although he’s aging much like Judy Dench, I still think he’s handsome as fuck. He’s smart and funny and creative and kind. At 60-whatever he’s still the cute Beatle…well…I mean I know half of them are dead, but you know what I mean. Paul McCartney is cheeky enough to get away with dating someone like me, by which I mean, someone with a 4 decade age difference. No one thinks Macca is gross. Were he to date me I’m sure most people would find it charming. I know I would. He’s younger than my dad! (OK by like a year or two, shhh.)

Photobucket

Look at that face. Fucking look at it! I would hit it so hard that he would time travel, back to the date where this photo was taken, stop and pose just like this, and then time travel back to his current sexy self. We would have amazing kinky Beatles sex. I would be the walrus. He could goo-goo-gajoob whatever he wanted.

The oldest man I ever dated was 36. I was 20. And by dated I mean sleep with after a night of drug induced madness. Since then I’ve managed to stay within my age bracket but it’s not really by choice. I just haven’t met anyone older who wants to date me. Or I don’t want to date them. We’re like those boats at the end of The Great Gatsby, floating carelessly into the past, scoping out the bar at Bardot for better looking people to hit on. It’s a love story of the saddest kind. The kind without any love. Or story, for that matter.

Hmmm…maybe his bones aren’t so weak after all! Maybe I’m amazed.

I don’t think Macca will risk another marriage. Maybe he’ll never find another love like the one he found in Linda. Maybe he just hasn’t met me yet and therefore hasn’t decided. Maybe I’m living in a dream world. Maybe we all are. Maybe this is all a dream inside Ringo Starr’s head. Maybe I am Ringo Starr. Who can say, really?

We Need To Talk About Your Boyfriend.

Hey Girl.

So you have a boyfriend. That’s great! You have someone’s lap to sit on at picnics. You have someone to take to your friend’s party. You don’t need to scout out guys at said party. Because you’ll be holding your boyfriend’s arm, tracing his veins with your fingertip, something all couples wind up doing without realizing it (watch for it next time). You have someone to force into couples costume for Halloween. You have someone all of your friends can look at and think, “Goddamn I’m jealous.” And that’s great! But girl unless your boyfriend is Captain Kirk, he ain’t going anywhere. You don’t need to spend every waking moment together. Or every sleeping moment either. And all of those cosmic moments in between. He’s always going to be there for you, and if he’s not, then he’s not a very good boyfriend and you should *NSYNC his ass (and I don’t know what this even means — am I referring to their hit “Bye Bye Bye” or their break-up or what? I don’t know guys, that’s the beauty of life!!).

I understand that in the beginning you’re going to be Lady GaGa for each other and that’s really great. It’s an exciting time.

But girl.

Girl.

Unless your boyfriend is Warren Beatty, from the above photo, from that exact era, I need to tell you something: He’s Not That Great.

Is this pure jealousy speaking? In some occasions, yes (see “Unless your boyfriend is Warren Beatty…” above). But most of the time, your boyfriend is going to be just like everybody else’s boyfriend. He’ll be there for you, yes, but will he be there for us? No, and that’s not his job. Your job, however, is to be there for us. Because you’re our friend. Not a Phoebe friend, because that woman was a goddamn bitch on the show “Friends” who acted like she was from goddamn outerspace, and was mean to Ross for no goddamn reason — I’m talking about real friendships, the kind that cannot fit into a Thursday night time slot.

Why are my references so 90s? But that’s not important right now.

What is important is that you stop and realize that girl, we’ve known you long before this dude did, unless you have some kind of Dawson/Joey situation. OK did VH1 just air an “I love the 90s” series that beamed directly into my brain? Anyway, we were there for you when you got your period on your pants in 8th grade and we loaned you our sweatshirt for you to tie around your waist. We were there for you when you first got drunk on cheap rum and we talked to you as you were barfing in the bathroom. We were there for you when you were in college and wondered, “What the hell am I going to do when I graduate”?

And where was he?

Just remember. It’s fine to be excited about your boyfriend, and we’re happy for you, but we need you too.

SO TEXT ME GODDAMNIT.

IT'S ALL ABOUT ME! (And by extension, you.)

I will not be ignored, Dan.

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog or if you are even a vaguely observant person, you may have come to the conclusion that I am vapid, insecure, and a raging egomaniac.

I just want to assure you that you are indeed correct.

I absolutely need to be the center of attention at all times. It’s always been this way. When I was a little kid I once burst into tears and threw a tantrum at a birthday party because the other kids didn’t like “Home Alone 2”. Enjoy your goddamn ice cream cake and My Little Pony now, bitch.

However I’m not totally psychotic; I realize that not everyone wants to lavish me with attention. I’m not sure why though because I am easily always one of the most interesting people in the room. It’s just a fact. (ONTD? Anyone?). In between beating myself up and wondering why every man I meet doesn’t fall in love with me, it’s actually amazing I’m able to function at all.

And, to be honest, because honesty is the word of the day, it is actually hard for me to function when a guy I fancy is hitting on a friend of mine and not me. To quote Pat Benatar and not Jordin Sparks, I don’t know who that goddamn bitch is fooling with her “new” song, “Love is a battlefield.” And I fight like those people fought over Oprah’s free KFC coupons. Those brave souls.

Ladies, we need to be nice to each other. If you like a guy and you know I like him, don’t be a dick and pretend that you don’t notice that he’s hitting on you. Hint: if he threw you into the pool, he’s hitting on you. Guys are sometimes very easy to understand. And women are the mindfucks.

Does the previous paragraph make no sense? That doesn’t matter at all really, because my point is this, and I’ve said this from (almost) day one of my blog:

Would Brigitte Bardot put up with this bullshit?

Fuck no you dumb bitch. I need one of those memes, those, “Look at this goddamn president” memes made up for Bardot. BUT THAT’S NOT IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW. Remember what BB said: “I don’t get left. I leave. I decide.”

I was at a party and everyone else had left, and it was down to 7 of us, and everyone is coupled off except for me. Did I feel like an ignored loser? Fuck no, I grabbed my shit and left, without saying goodbye because 1.)I doubt they’d notice, as I mentioned there were 2 couples on the deck and the couple in the goddamn pool who are practically in love with each other but won’t admit it and 2.) Because I need all the attention and drama. Home Alone 2. Home. Alone. 2.

Ladies; if you’re at a party and you’re not being paid attention to, and the guy/girl you like is hitting on your friend, then 1.) hit on someone else at the party, preferably hotter or 2.) just leave. Because you don’t get left. You leave. You decide.

She's Just Not That Into You.

I think I finally have an idea of what it’s like to be a guy.

I ran into a guy I knew from somewhere (vagueness is key on the internet). I was in a jovial mood so I invited the guy for a drink. I wasn’t looking for anything serious with this guy but I thought some drunken flirting, kissing, etc might be fun.

Two martinis later (vodka, dirty, always, please, thank you) I decided that it had been way too long since I last had sex. So against the Audrey Hepburn part of my brain, I decided, “Fuck it, I’m allowed to have fun and get laid.” I followed this gentleman back to his house.

Sexing ensued. And at some point during it, I realized, to quote the Bluth family, “I’ve made a terrible mistake.” This gentleman really actually *liked* me. Like liked, liked. “Do-you-like-me-Check-yes-or-no” like.

I’ve been this guy before, the “I like you guy”, the one making cute little jokes, cuddling, so happy to be in the bed with a certain person. Thinking that everything was going so well. But, unfortunately for him, he’s not what I was looking for. I was looking to get laid, plain and simple. No messiness, no promises of future dates, just a fun romp. But he didn’t know this, and how could he? Now here is where I understand where men are coming from.

Because see, there’s nothing actually wrong with his guy. He’s adorable, kind, etc. It’s not like there was something he could have done to change my mind/feelings about him. It’s just that he’s not what I want right now. It’s like if I went into a store and said, “Show me your best china” and you brought me back a Marc Jacobs coat, I would say, “That’s a great coat but that’s not at all what I’m looking for.”

Now I get it. I get why things seem to be going so great with a guy — we have a great evening, kissing, cuddling, etc — only to not hear from him the next day. I’m just not “it”. Not what he’s looking for. “Just not that into me” etc. And it’s actually true. Because I’m a Marc Jacobs coat, he knows, I know it. But he’s looking for cutlery. And you can’t cut a steak with a coat.

He's Out There Looking For You

You know how people try to make you feel better about being single by telling you, “Hey he’s out there looking for you, he just hasn’t found you yet!”?

WELL HE SHOULD GET A FUCKING GPS BECAUSE THIS IS BULLSHIT.

I have been waiting and I keep thinking that I’ve met him and instead I meet men who pee in front of me on the first date or act lovely towards me and the disappear from the face of the planet.

WHERE ARE YOU, PERFECT GUY FOR ME? Are you famous? Is that why your schedule is so busy? Oh crap, are you John Mayer? Please don’t be John Mayer. Are you Chris Pine? I don’t really care if you are, your name just kind of popped into my head. Hey Chris Pine, you were adorable in “Just My Luck” and pretty good in Star Trek, I guess, but to be honest I was a little distracted by your massive package. Sweet sassy molassy. I’m talking about the scene where he’s going to do that green woman. That’s like, an entire Death Star in those briefs. OK I know Death Star is a Star Wars reference and not a Star Trek one, but I think effort counts for a lot.

My friend says that I haven’t met him yet (my perfect guy, not Chris Pine) because she needs to meet him first so she can make sure he’s not a rapist and introduce me. How thoughtful. She says he will be funny and thin and creative. He will have dark hair and an odd sense of humor. And etc, I tuned out at some point. He needs to be amazing. He needs to have a goddamn job. And it should be awesome. He should be so attractive that I ovulate every time I see him.

Oh I know what you’re thinking: “your standards are too high”.

WELL DUH MY STANDARDS ARE HIGH. STANDARDS ARE WHAT SEPARATES US FROM ANIMALS. You don’t see a dog freaking out over which dog’s ass to sniff, a dog just finds an ass and sniffs it. That’s the thing about dogs, they don’t care.

If none of us had standards we would all be married by now.

What! I’m just saying! We would all be married by age 12 so we could immediately spend the rest of our lives with another person, popping out kids, like a farm animal.

But we don’t do that because of standards. Standards are great. Standards make us feel like we have some control over my lives. Like, “Oh I haven’t gone on a second date with Derek because I don’t think he’s liberal enough.” No, it has nothing to do with the fact that Derek ignores your texts; now it’s about YOU. You are the one in control, you are the one in charge of your destiny…and…emotions…and Spock…and I’m really trying to work in more Star Trek references but I’m having a hard time here. Help me, Obi-Wan Kanobi. DAMNIT, WRONG FRANCHISE AGAIN. Uh…I’m a doctor, not a…mechanic.

BUT THAT’S NOT IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW.

So look, guy, you better find me. I will be looking but I’m sick of doing all the work. I like to go out, to classy bars and such, so when you see me, just say “Hi”. That’s it. “Hi”. As long as you do that and aren’t ugly and don’t pee on yourself, I’ll know you’re the one.

Some Ideas For Dates

OK everyone by now you know that I feel that no one really dates anymore so perhaps your question for me is, 1.) “So Almie, what sort of date WOULD you like to go on?” Or maybe your question is, 2.) “Why are you such a bitch?” I’m going to answer the first question because the second question is impossible to answer. That’s like asking why an apple is edible. Or why the moon is so big. Or why Jon Hamm is so perfectly engineered. And et cetera.

A few days ago a lovely fellow invited me to go for a hike. Because of point 2.) I said no. I don’t hike. What am I, Yogi Bear? But the point is that is a great idea for a date! It’s going outside of the box. It’s saying to the box, “Hey fucker, I’m going to step right outside of you and I’m not even going to look back, you fucking wanker.”

When it comes to dates, I like to go real old school. I like a guy to take me to a great restaurant. It doesn’t have to be expensive or trendy (and I would prefer if it wasn’t trendy; I want to be able to stuff my face without having to look at Ashley Tisdale or some shit, ugh) it just has to be a place that is great! Personally I haven’t found my favorite restaurant yet but if some dude saddled up and said, “Hey I know a great place” and then took me to the Pirates restaurant in Disneyland that would pretty much melt my heart. AWWW YOU GUYS.

But you don’t have to do dinner. Some other cool things to do include museums. Remember those? They’re like the internet but instead of hilarious Twilight GIFs they’re real, physical works that you can look at, but not touch, NEVER TOUCH. The great thing about going to museums is that you can both feel like you’re really accomplishing something and it’s great to drop at a party. “Oh I just got back from the new _____ show” and people want to sound equally cultured so they’ll say, “Wow, how was it?” and then you can say, “It was resplendant/dull/fascinating/preterable.” BTW that last word was made up DID YOU NOTICE? You better keep your fucking looking balls locked on what I write because you never know when I’m going to throw you a fucking curveball. I’m like Brandon Walsh: always trying to educate.

Now I know in this economy it’s hard to afford a decent date to which I say, TOO FUCKING BAD, MONEY UP! No No that’s harsh. Really, there are inexpensive things you can do. Like hike. Or barbeque. Or look at bugs or some shit. I am not being condescending! These are fine things to do! Or you could go to the Santa Monica Pier and for 2-4 bucks get real non-Mac photobooth photos and walk along the beach. Or if you were on the date that I was on, you have that beach stroll interrupted by a phone call from your date’s strung-out friend who is confused and is stranded at the top of Mulholland Drive without a ride or shoes. But whatever!

I hope this has given you something to think about and if it hasn’t then it’s your own fucking fault for not keeping your mind open and your looking balls locked.

Merry Passover!

Friends, a few years ago I found a book in my parent’s garage from the 1960 titled “Datebook’s Complete Guide To Dating”. You can bet your sweet bippy that excerpts are going to appear on this blog along with my charming commentary. If that’s something you’re interested in then stick around. Otherwise you can go fuck yourself, RYAN SEACREST. STOP CALLING ME. I TOLD YOU I’M NOT INTERESTED. LEAVE ME ALONE.

Until then, Happy Pesach!
